Since you go to the effort to make wildly different forum designs...
Why don't you call them Shatzy templates and make a forum so that newbie moderators may choose a forum design that you have retired.

thats an intresting idea.
some of the decor i have made in the past have
been completely 'made' by me... in as far as
the images and such.
however, like this current image and the last
one (with the queen in red)... contain copyrighted
images and i doubt that it would go over well.
(even though i mean no harm)
i dunno that anyone would want 'shatzy templates'....
but i could mess around with the idea of creating
templates for a broader audience....
will ponder....

Now Hanny, this isn't about you. (sound of Hannibal crashing to the floor).
This could even be a fundraising idea. Newbie moderators could "purchase" an existing template that you or other moderators would abandon everytime a new forum look is created.
Maybe we could have a category on hostboard that would simply have these various templates on display, newbie moderators, and even lazy moderators, could choose a look they like, pay $25 bucks, and use it for their own forum.
The copyright issue probably needs to be considered however. darn.

it is impossible to display any template that could not be stolen.
even if you were to put some sort of text over
a template to deter stealing, that text can easily
be edited out... believe me, i've done it.

A first time moderator might be amenable to wanting to "upgrade" their forum quickly without having to go through a learning curve.
Probably most wouldn't mind paying a small fee.
I probably would have paid a small fee for at least one of my forums if there was a pre-made design that I liked.

one thing is apparent:
#1 -- either you aren't getting what i'm saying
or
#2 -- i'm not speaking plainly enough
i wonder which it is? *scratches head*

How about instead of posting templates for the new mods, we charge $1 and have a 'Decorating Tip" button.
Ya go in and enter your payment info and then get your decorating tip.
My suggestion for the tip would be "Get off your ass and design your own damn forum!!!"

I think of it as barter and goodwill.
It helps Hostboard by generating money, shows appreciation for the previous efforts of others, and
probably makes the person purchasing it happy.
